Community Dog Visiting Program (AAA Dog Assisted Activities)

Mission: to promote and facilitate positive interaction between people and dogs.
Our dogs come in all sizes and breeds, with exceptional temperaments, (friendly, patient, confident, gentle, and at ease in all situations), providing affection and comfort to people in a variety of Australian Service Provider settings. (Community Houses, Hospitals, Nursing Homes, School, Disability Services, Mental Health settings) Our dogs’ primary job is to enjoy human contact, allowing unfamiliar people to pet them and handle them. Children enjoy hugging or playing with our dogs; adults usually enjoy simply sitting and petting our dogs. Our smaller dogs can be lifted onto, or climb onto, an individual’s lap or bed and sit or lie comfortably there. Some of our dogs contribute to the visiting experience by performing small tricks for their audience or playing carefully structured games.

Specialised Animal Assisted Interventions

Clinical Programs

  • is goal-directed interventions in which an animal (professional trained dogs specific for level of professional work in healthcare and social service settings) is incorporated as an integral part of the clinical health-care treatment process.
  • delivered or directed by professional health or human service provider who demonstrates skill and expertise regarding the clinical applications of human-animal interactions.”
Therapeutic Dog Services qualified, professional health and human services team, form Therapeutic Dog Services Animal Assist Team, working with client groups, choosing appropriate goals and determining which activities intervention is to be used. Structured complementary clinical programs.
  • utilizing experienced, trained Dogs within the therapeutic process. (Therapeutic Dog Services owned and trained dogs, professional trained dogs specifically for level of professional work in healthcare and social service settings)
  • other animals are available on request depending on availability.
  • occasionally community dog visiting teams and other pet animals will be invited to participate within these structured programs.

Animal Assisted Activities Programs

Provides information and education to ensure the human and pet relationship is a happy and safe one.
Is a fun and interactive learning tool educating adults on responsible dog ownership and dog safety, incorporates learning activities and games to promote social inclusion.

Animal Assisted Education Programs

Programs such as learning to read, dog education, or dog safety.
Provided in a variety of settings, may be group or individual in nature and may be implemented for persons of any age. There are specific goals for everyone involved and the process is documented and evaluated.

Animal Assisted Reading Program

Programs such as learning to read. A dog is a fun and interactive learning tool, ideal companions because they promote relaxation and lower blood pressure, do not judge, laugh or criticise and allow participant to proceed at their own pace.

Animal Assisted Therapy Program

Mission: to promote and facilitate positive interaction therapy between people and dogs. Animal Assisted Therapy is directed and/or delivered with a specific clinical goal for an individual or group in mind.
Animal Assisted Therapy offers very unique therapy programs to adults and children: recovery & rehabilitation programs, special needs: multiple disabilities programs. Programs are designed to help client engage, improving self-confidence, social skills, physical skills, and emotional responses etc. Therapy is delivered 1:1 or within group settings.
Therapeutic Dog Services qualified Behavioural Scientist, Counsellors, Mental Health and Dog Training staff, work closely with other specialists such as Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Recreation Therapists, Teachers, Social Workers, Doctors and specialists, to deliver specifically designed clinical programs.

Support Visiting Services Program

Mission: to promote and facilitate inclusion, positive interaction between people. We are committed to social justice and inclusion, and respect the rights of all people, in all their diversity, to live with dignity and safety and to enjoy healthy relationships.
The Volunteer Home Visiting Service is a service that provides volunteers in a personal visitation service for physically disabled persons in their community home on a weekly/fortnightly/monthly basis.
Visitation is home-based support and plays a vital role in the lives of people with prominent level physical disabilities by supporting them to:
  • maintain an active lifestyle within their community-based home by having an outside visitor,
  • achieve independence and dignity with the support and help of a visitor
Support Visitation Helpers help by taking the time to visit, communicating and chatting, light tasks such as helping clients organise their room etc, computer accessing, reading books or magazines, help with communication (for device users), book work, help with hobbies or introduction to hobbies.

Counselling & Mental Health Services

Mission: to promote and facilitate to empower clients to adopt more constructive life practices.
A process that focuses on enhancing the psychological well-being of the client, such that the client is then able to reach their full potential.
This is achieved by the counsellor facilitating personal growth, development, and self-understanding, which in turn empowers the client to adopt more constructive life practices.

Social Inclusion Program

Mission: to promote and facilitate inclusion to advance the interests, well-being and welfare of people who are disadvantaged by reason of disability.
Social inclusion aims to help clients feel included and valued, giving everyone the opportunity to participate fully in society. It is about connecting with local communities, old schools, day options and workmates, family and friends to build and strengthen relationships and networks, addressing isolation and exclusion by supporting people who live with physical disabilities and may be unable to help themselves. Respecting the rights of all people, in all their diversity, to live with dignity and safety and to enjoy healthy relationships.

Wellness & Be Active Program

Mission: to promote and facilitate inclusion to advance the interests, well-being and welfare of people who are disadvantaged by reason of disability and ageing.
 Wellness & Be Active Program (day options activities) aims to encourage physical activity, promote healthy lifestyles and improve the social contentedness within local communities.
A support service that provides an inclusive program that aims to reduce the social isolation of people who are disadvantaged, live with acute illness, disability or ageing population.
Through the weekly Wellness & Be Active Program (day option activities), we provide a range of activities to hundreds of people living in South Australia. Everyone will have access to safe, organised activities that encourage people of all ages to increase their level of physical activity, improve their health, community inclusion and enjoy meaningful participation and acceptance regardless of their physical abilities.

This program:
  • actively teach and encourage understanding of taking care of their physical, emotional and psychological wellbeing.
  • is designed to help the community settle into life, learn something new, meet new people.
  • actively work to advance social inclusion, encouraging communities to reconnect and be inclusive of all cultures, age groups, nationalities, disadvantages and abilities.
Advances Physical & Mental Health: promotes health and well being through healthy nutrition and cooking workshops, community garden and low-impact fitness classes, introduction of Animal Assisted Activities that promote physical activity and community contentedness.
Advances Social or Public Welfare & Advances Physical Ability: promotes and facilitates inclusion, advances the interests, well-being and welfare of people who are disadvantaged by reason of disability.
